Stranglers Convention 2001, Part 1
The Stranglers must be one of the few bands that hold conventions
for their fans. This page is a short record of the 2001 convention,
at Weston-super-Mare.

On arrival, we had the customary 'festival' wristband.

Trying to get a better view of the chilled-out set without leaving
me beer.
The chilled-out set was a neat idea, a lot less 'formal' than
the usual electric set. Dave, more used to tinkling his ivories,
played guitar for the odd song, and Baz whipped out his harmonica
and did Old Codger.

Of course, Paul has his wooden block out for Always
the Sun, always a crowd pleaser! :-)
Saturday saw JJ's Question Time and Dave's Challenge.
Apparently there were preliminary question papers
in order to qualify for Dave's Challenge,
but we never saw any. Anyway, they needed some more volunteers
to take part, so up I went.

Dave's Challenge - the audience was strangely quite a distance
back from the proceedings.

And here's me - sitting to Dave's left
The bit of paper above is from the Vladimir round,
in which we had to say which song the Vlad lyric Dave read out
was from.
I was the smartarse who got most of the 'next line' round right
:-)

We got some rock for taking part in Dave's Challenge
Shortly afterwards, the memorabilia raffle took place (won nowt)
and the auctioning of JJ's leather coat from the front cover of
Aural Sculpture and JJ's Docs took place. I believe £850
was raised for Prostate Cancer research.
